Our debut album, released under Preserved sounds, was sold out within a year and well received.

"There is something deliciously dark and mysterious about the film noir-esque sounds presented on Legacy of the Witty by Trigg & Gusset on Preserved Sound ... something very David Lynch. Slow, lazy percussion ... haunting piano ... and some seriously sensual yet rather melancholic saxophone ... all come together to make this late night soundtrack. Add the odd synth and percussive sample ... and wow, what an album. There is even a double bass on a few tracks which is just icing on the cake ... With Bart Knol on keys, beats, synths, and samples ... and Erik van Geer on tenor sax and bass clarinet ... this is some lovely music. Throw in Dominique Bentvelsen on double bass on four of the tracks and you have something beautiful indeed. The melodies articulated by the saxophone are simply breathtaking ... they are the eloquent expression of someone who knows how to play ... and play well. Passionate & expressive yet unhurried ... I found these melodies an utter joy to consume…' Published in June 2013 in headphonaught.

About

Trigg & Gusset are Bart Knol (keys/electronics) and Erik van Geer (tenor saxophone/bass clarinet). Their common passion for slow jazz, atmospheric electronics and tense grooves resulted in 2013 in their debut-album ‘Legacy of the Witty’. This album was released under the Polish label ‘Preserved Sound’ and sold out shortly after.

After a short European tour the two musicians decided in 2014 to create a successor to ‘Legacy of the Witty’, entitled ‘Adagio for the Blue’. With the 2nd album the thread of the 1st album is put by, with more accent on composition. Voiced themes supported by layered chords alternated with improvised solos. The musical duo is assisted by several guest musicians, including trumpeter Coen Hamelink, flamenco-guitarist Midas Ghijsels and double bass players Just Lavooy and Dominique Bentvelsen.

Quotes from the media:

“Trigg (Bart Knol; keyboards, beats, synths en samples) & Gusset (Erik van Geer; tenor sax, basklarinet) – ik had nog nooit van dit tweetal gehoord – komen gewoon uit het niets even met een overtuigende darkjazz plaat ala Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble en Cinematic Orchestra. Legacy Of The Witty ademt van begin tot eind een donkere jazzy tristesse” – recensie musique (2013)
